Curriculum

St. Mary-St. Michael School is Pre-K through Grade 8 school fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

Some of our offerings include a Pre-K program and full-day kindergarten, small class sizes, technology-centered classrooms, Spanish instruction for all students, extracurricular enrichment programs, and extended-day options.

We are proud to be one of only 12 schools in the Archdiocese of Hartford chosen for a pilot program in robotics and engineering.

In addition to our STEM curriculum, our students are exposed to technology in many ways:

  • Google Classroom helps educators create classes, distribute assignments, send feedback, and see everything in one place.
  • Chromebook laptop computers are provided for each student in 7th and 8th grade.
  • Khan Academy allows students to learn anytime, anywhere, with material that is uniquely appropriate for them.
  • iPads make it easy to bring coding and core creative skills to every subject.

Academic Co-curriculars

Art Enrichment

Through the arts, students gain a greater understanding of their own cultural heritage, as well as a sense of the larger world community. It encourages growth in self-esteem, risk-taking, and sharpens skills in the mastery of many techniques and mediums. It is for these reasons we believe the fine arts are essential for students to grow spiritually, academically, emotionally, and personally.

Chorus / Music Appreciation

Music improves concentration, discipline, listening, and social skills. It is a great aid in developing memory, emotion and mood... and it aids in organizing the brain. Through music appreciation, students can learn skills like time management, communication, patience, and perseverance.

Physical Education / Instructional Sports

Physical activity is an essential component of a healthy lifestyle. In combination with healthy eating, it can help prevent a range of chronic diseases, including heart disease, cancer, and stroke, which are the three leading causes of death. Physical activity helps control weight, builds lean muscle, reduces fat, promotes strong bone, muscle and joint development, and decreases the risk of obesity.

Spanish

Studies show that foreign languages are best learned before the learner reaches the age of 17. We couldn’t agree more! That’s why we provide weekly Spanish instruction for all students grades K-8. Our aim is for every student to become proficient before they enter high school.

STEM

St. Mary-St. Michael School is proud to be one of only 12 schools in the Archdiocese of Hartford chosen for a pilot program in robotics and engineering.

Grade 6-Grade 8

Additionally, our powerful partnerships with leading educational companies are empowering schools to deliver 21st Century learning experiences like never before.

Faith Formation

Religion and Spirituality play a large role in our students’ daily activities. In addition to our regular religious studies curriculum in the classroom, we begin and end our day with prayer. In addition, these core values of faith, are instilled within all of our core classes, including specials. We also attend weekly Friday Mass in order to involve each child directly in the process of catholic social teachings.

As we help guide our students along this path, we do our best to ensure that they maintain the same values outside of school and in their daily lives, with the help of our school parents, extended families and community.

Students are also encouraged to get involved in various charitable projects outside of the classroom, and we take part in several charity related projects, and align ourselves with various organizations throughout our school year. We believe that this is a vital part of our students’ spiritual growth.
